Interview with Tony Zimmerman of
Raging New England Metal Band, Hell Within

As HELL WITHIN prepares to head out on a coast-to-coast 35-show concert tour, the band’s guitarist and spokesman, Tony Zimmerman took some time to tell us about the Tour and the band’s future plans.

Describe your band’s brand of rock ‘n roll.
Hell Within is a straight up metal band. We’re not interested in trends, scenes or niches. The only thing that we’re interested in is doing metal in the vain of Pantera, Slayer and HELL WITHIN. We are into screaming, singing, guitar solos and great rhythms. We talk about real world events and it’s not always pretty, but it’s our view on the world and life.

How long has the band been gigging?
The band started in 2002 and have been playing shows ever since.

Do you have a record contract?
Yes we do. Presently we’re signed to Lifeforce Records, but our contract is near completion. As of now we’ve decided to shop to new labels and to take the band to the next level with a more established label. Lifeforce was an okay stepping stone, but there were a lot of locked doors with them. We were offered to do The Sounds of the Underground Tour and to tour with Arch-Enemy, but Lifeforce would not do what it took to make the deals happen. We’re looking for a label that will help create good opportunities for the band, one that will welcome our hard work, and will then invest the same type of work into Hell Within

Tell us about your upcoming Coast to Coast tour –35 shows in five weeks.
We’ve done about 200 shows behind our latest cd “Shadows of Vanity” and we did about 200 shows our 1st album “Asylum Of The Human Predator” This tour will be our last tour behind this record and when we get home we will start shopping new record labels.

Any particular cities you’re looking forward to invading?
We are looking forward to Caper WY, Salt Lake City, UT, and Kilgore, TX. All those cities guarantee to have 200 hundred people at the shows. We always do well in these towns and thus have a great time.

What other bands will be on this tour along with Hell Within?
This tour will only be Hell Within. We where going to be going out with another band, but there drummer had a family emergency and had to stay home.

What are the band’s strengths?
Hell Within is a resilient band. Nothing will ever stop this band. We’ve had many curve balls thrown our way, but we always figure things out. We are all very open-minded and are great with problem solving.

2007 Shadows Of Vanity (Lifeforce Records)

Have you received airtime on the radio?
Yes we have. Both albums received air play on FM, Satellite and internet radio.

How did you get hooked up with No Fear?
We contacted No Fear about 3 to 4 years ago when you guys just started your No Fear Music. Hell Within was actually one of the first bands on Myspace and right out of the gates started promoting on it. We noticed your page, checked you guys out, sent in a press kit etc and we have supported each other ever since. We love wearing the No Fear gear…we always have it on.

Has Hell Within opened for any big time shows?
We’ve played with bands such as 3 Inches of Blood, Divine Heresy, God Dethroned, Nightrage, Hatebreed, Messuggah, The Haunted, Godforbid etc… The list goes on and on.

What would Hell Within like to accomplish on this tour?
This tour is mainly to show all the industry that Hell Within is a hard working group. This is to keep Hell Within fresh in everyone’s mind before we start shopping to new labels.

How will you kill time on the bus rides between shows?
We watch a lot of TV, play Madden 09 and smoke a lot of weed.

What’s the single best thing about being in a rock band?
The best thing about being in a band is getting to play music every night. We just love to play and that’s why we do it.
