Javier Villegas UpdateMarch 7th, 2010
And so February is over, a pretty crazy month, I didn’t have any free weekend and i rode a different place every week.
After I came back from India I went to the Gravity Slashers tour in Little Rock AR. On the way to Little Rock I had an awful time, traveling more than 6 hours in a severe snowstorm, I traveled during snow before, but never with such intensity and at night, so a 6 hour trip became about 10 hours, but everything was going to improve as soon as i could get in to my bike.
The first day of competition I got a second place in the final because I made some mistakes during that run, but I did better in the second day and took the victory in the best whip and in the finals, a trip quite satisfactory, especially because I was able to do our first snowman with my son, Javier, and watch him destroy it.
So I went back home, I was preparing my trip to Argentina where I was going to do the two final freestyle attack stops, Villa Gesell, for the enduro del verano and in Mendoza.
On the first day of show at Villa Gesell, the weather and the bikes played a trick on us, the rain during the day before left the track way to wet for us to ride on it, but we still wanted to try if we could do some tricks. But then, during practice, Ronnie Renner’s bike, had some engine problems and Rudy Waller’s bike gave us some clutch issues, so we had to cancel that show and get things better for the next day.
The sunday show went wonderfully, Martin “The Angel” Carvajal, announced pretty awesome, brought the audience to shout and applaud, even during times that the bikes were not “flying”. The show was open by the small X-Cris Meyer, age 13, who did all of the regular tricks, but in a 85 cc
During intermission my good friend and better bmx rider, Jonathan Ospina from Colombia and the Balmaceda brothersdid a great bmx show, they were increasing the level at each jump , but Ospina had to close this show with a beast, and raise the level of the show with a perfect double flip .
We close the show, showing the best we had on our bikes, and it was hard to do asomething better than a double flip, even on a bmx , so I did my best trick, a flip Kiss of death that left people screaming and begging for more, and I hope to give them more, but, next summer.
After a couple of days rest, we left to Mendoza to close the summer tour of Freestyle attack. We practice and test a ramp that we would use on the show, at the Cristian Carleti’s private track in Tunuyán, so i took the chance to practice some motocross and we did a mini private show for local kids, who had the opportunity to share with us and see our tricks in first row.
On Friday night, we had a spaniard announcer, which unfortunately was not up to our event level, so Rudy Waller took possession of the microphone and gain control of the show as if he had done all his life, Actually, I was impressed, I would imagine that he would do well, as a pilot and knows what there is to say, but being the microphone and say a few words, is very different to encourage a public for about two hours. Now that we had an entertainer at the height of the event, we needed to show the best we had, and we did, people cheered and shouted us like there was no tomorrow, and this was the first time that a back flip on a dirt bike was ever attempted in Mendoza and i wanted to see how the crowd would react to it, as soon as I left the ramp there was complete silence that was broken at the time that my wheels touched the ground and the crowd cheered and shouted. It would be hard to top the show the next night, but we are a group of riders full of surprises.
That Friday night, while planning my next show and I fell asleep thinking about how i would ride the next show, an earthquake struck Chile, causing serious injuries and fatalities, fortunately my whole family is fine, with no regrets, still waiting to contact hope some friends near the epicenter, which I hope are safe.
On Saturday we pushed the ramp back a few feet to get more airtime, which improved our show at 100%. Just while warming the bike to jump, I went over a metal rod that trashed my wheel and we did not have time to fix it, was at that time that Rudy gave me his wheel and he focused in to announcing the show, this time with more confidence . The show was very similar to the previous day, but closing will remain in the memory of Mendoza for some time.
After everyone present a routine of our best jumps, all the riders stop riding , leaving the ramp just for me and Jonathan Ospina, Rudy asked to turn off the music and the clapping of the audience be our only motivation, and so we headed to our respective starting point. stop for a few seconds, and we raced to our ramps and we crossed in mid air upside down. Jonatan with a double flip passed beneath me while I flipped my bike, which caused a general madness in the audience.
In general I think February was a success, we spend a great time, and I was with friends in places that had never been, I hope the rest of the season remains the same.
I take this moment to thank Chuck Carothers, who lend me his flip levers, to do my shows, because mine never appeared from “that” flight by Delta Airlines in late 2009 and also to Toxic Graphics who is in charge of designing and printing my Custom Graphics.

Rider Update -Javier VillegasFebruary 11th, 2010
It’s been a crazy month. I’ve been traveling and buying the missing parts of my bike, as Delta Airlines did not take any responsibility in the lost bag with the parts. So yesterday I finally received my suspension, prepared at my weight and now I’m finally ordering the super flip levers. A few weeks ago I was in Panama in the opening round of Freestyle attack 2010, the show was good, the only problem was the closed and humid environment to which the bikes were overheating and leaking coolant around the stadium, but the event went ahead and we could give a good show.
I returned from Panama with enough money to order the parts of my bike. I spend days checking Ebay to find all the parts that I needed and last week finally got my suspension which immediately took to EBR to prepare and yesterday as soon as I returned from India , I went to pick it up, and I am ready to give it a try.
After a week off, because my friend Clint gave me a weekend of “off” , I could spend it getting my tricks back and preparing for the second stop of freestyle attack in Chennai India. India’s show was wonderful, perfect bikes and ramps that need it little repair . After the modification of the ramps, the show went a 100%, was so good that they wanted us to stay one more week to repeat the show, which was not possible because we all had shows this weekend. This weekend I have to go to Little Rock Arkansas and then go to Argentina to continue the attack Freestyle.
